X is for Xerophyte
Xerophyte
[ˈzɪərəˌfaɪt]
A term used to describe a plant that has modified its structure so that it is capable of coping with a limited amount of water. Modifications may include the development of a thick, swollen stem that can be used as a reservoir, or the reduction of leaves and stems to limit the surface area available for transpiration. Cacti, succulents, heathers and brooms are good examples showing various degrees of modification.
