Leatherjacket
/ˈlɛðədʒakɪt/
Leatherjackets, the larvae of the cranefly or daddy-long-legs, live in the top layers of soil where they feed on roots. In a domestic situation, the damage is particularly noticeable on lawns where dead patches are caused.  The common European cranefly (Tipula Paludosa) is an agricultural pest in Europe.
