Indehiscent
/ˌɪndɪˈhɪs(ə)nt/
Describes pods or fruit which do not split open to release the seeds when ripe. These kinds of fruit require the outer covering to be removed before attempts at propagation can be made. Examples include chestnuts and beech nuts.
