Use A Banana To Keep Cuttings Fresh

Did you know…?
…if you go out and think there might be an opportunity to take some plant cuttings but worry that by the time you get them home they might have deteriorated, take a banana with you! Just make a nick in the skin and push the stem, cut end first, into the soft flesh. This way it will stay fresh for hours.

  1. No, I didn’t know that. Does it work because the banana keeps the stems moist, or is it because of some chemical in the banana?

    1. I really don’t know but I presume it just keeps them protected and moist – any scientists out there welcome to put me right though!
