Plant sitting at the Villas…

Holiday

Dwarf (Alpine) Campanula My friend Tina and her husband have taken their motor home and gone on one of their fast becoming regular Grand Tours of Europe, this time taking in Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Austria. Last summer they visited the Fatherland – Bavaria and the Black Forest I believe and Tina brought back some packets of edelweiss and alpine campanula flower seeds which she lovingly planted earlier this year.

Seedlings

Edelweiss at the Villas Overall she was disappointed with their rate of germination, ending up with just three seedlings – two campanula and one edelweiss but how precious those three tiny plants are! A very special souvenir of a wonderful holiday… So here’s the thing – I have been entrusted with their care whilst she’s away – no pressure – and I am keeping a very watchful eye on them in the safety of our fruit cage, willing them to survive at least until she gets back! Three weeks later and I’m glad to report that the plantlets are still alive, in fact one has even grown a bit… phew

About

Up until five years ago I had no experience of growing vegetables other than encouraging my young children at the time to take an interest in GYO for a couple of years – mainly in an effort to get them out of the house and into the fresh air.

Oh dear, I think I’ve been sold a packet of duff seeds Bridget :(

We were planting them by our stream this afternoon and the 2 campanula have ended up giving me nettle stings. Now the more I look at them the more they look like stinging nettles…… My poor hands are covered in stings. I’ll leave them in the ground for a while just in case but they don’t look like the English campanula we already have.

Lets hope we have better luck with the edelweiss.

If not we’ll never live it down that we’ve been growing/plant sitting nettles lol.

See you tomorrow x

If they ARE nettles I bet they can’t believe their luck – all this attention and TLC!! How funny but at the same time, poor you… Got any dock leaves??

I looked at them when I got home from work tonight and didn’t have the heart to pull them up. Will have to make a decision before they get established in the ground. You’re right Bridget, all that tlc lol x
